Office of the Principal

As a 36 year educator in Texas school, both public and private, I
bring a diverse set of educational experiences to Garwood
Elementary School.  As an extremely small campus, Garwood
has its own unique set of challenges and opportunities for both
our students and our staff. The small classes will allow students at
Garwood to receive much more individualized attention from their
teachers than those of larger campuses. Yet the smaller staff
makes meeting the diverse curriculum a large challenge that
requires some innovative scheduling and flexibility.

2024-2025 promises to be an extremely challenging year for
all Texas educators and students, and these challenges will be
just as great here at Garwood Elementary School. The new
mandates for school safety, a new science curriculum, changes in
the state testing formats and a larger diversity of our student
population all pose challenges for educator here in Garwood,
Texas throughout the district and the state.

As a member of the Rice CISD administrative staff for the
last five years, I am very familiar with the expectations of the
district and those of you’re the parent. I will work diligently with my
staff to ensure that we meet those expectations.

As always, if you have any questions, please call the school
and we will get you an answer. Our mission is and will continue to
be to “provide a learning environment where all students will
prepare for their next level of education, academically, physically
and emotionally.”

Sincerely,
Virgil Knowlton
Principal, Garwood Elementary School
